BannockburnArbroath Abbey Visit the remains of the 12th century priory at Bannockburn. It was here in 1314 the bloodiest battle between Scotland and England took place, where King Robert the Bruce led the Scots to victory. This is the most famous Abbey in Scotland as it was here in 1320 the declaration of independence from England was written. The priory was founded by William The Lion who was buried here, you can also see the only surviving Abbots house in all of Scotland, also the Abbey Gate house, entry towers, and former prison buildings.
